JavaScript is a dynamic scripting language developed by Netscape to enable web authors to design interactive web sites. Although it shares many of the features and structures of the full Java language, it was developed independently. JavaScript is endorsed by a number of software companies and it is an open language that anyone can use without purchasing a license.
How JavaScript is Used
JavaScript can be used to interact with HTML source code to enable web authors to add everything from web page animations to full scale e-commerce facilities to their web sites.

Enabling JavaScript in Internet Explorer v5.0+
- Click the "Tools" menu and then select "Internet Options"
- Click on the "Security" tab at the top of the dialogue
- Click on the Internet scope (world icon) and then click on the "Custom Level..." button
- Scroll the window down until you see the "Scripting" settings
- Click on the "Enable" toggle box of the "Active Scripting" section
- Click on the "OK" button in both of the open dialogue boxes
- Click on the HOME menu link at the top of this page
Enabling JavaScript in Netscape Navigator v4.75+
- Click the "Edit" menu and then select "Preferences"
- Click on the "Advanced" category and enable (check) the "Enable JavaScript" toggle box
- Click on the "OK" button
- Click on the HOME menu link at the top of this page
