What is HTML ?

HTML is short for HyperText Markup Language, an authoring language used to create documents for the World Wide Web.  HTML defines the structure and layout of a Web document by using a variety of tags and attributes.


How HTML works

HTML works by employing hundreds of types of tags or codes which format the layout of information contained in a Web page.  For instance, the <P> tag is used to format paragraphs, and the <FONT> tag is used to format the font used to display text.  Each set of tags have a start and end tag surrounding the information to be formatted (i.e. <P> ... paragraph info ... </P> ).
